Dr. Kulbersh Predicts Most Sought After Celebrity Cosmetic Procedures for Award Show Season

Wednesday, January 23rd, 2013

Julia Roberts Oscars 207x300 Dr. Kulbersh Predicts Most Sought After Celebrity Cosmetic Procedures for Award Show SeasonLights, camera, action—it’s officially that time of year! With the holiday season just behind us, it’s now time for members of Hollywood to get into tip-top shape and achieve a healthy facial glow that most people think is unattainable. However, as a facial plastic surgeon trained in Beverly Hills, I perform the very same treatments that celebrities will be seeking shortly before awards shows like the Oscar’s, the Emmy’s, and the Grammy’s at my office in Charlotte. I want to let my patients know how they too can achieve a similar look with my top three picks for this year’s award season.

1. Facial Fillers

At this year’s award shows, you can expect to see plenty of celebrities with refreshed looking faces due to facial filler injections—most commonly hyaluronic acid fillers like Juvederm or Restylane. Filler treatments are great because not only is the treatment itself quick with little to no downtime, but also provides immediate results as the fillers instantly plump up a face to replace lost volume. The use of facial fillers can be seen over a broad age range on the red carpet, with the treatment working wonders for both young stars needing to fight the initial signs of aging or to achieve the ever so popular “Angelina lips,” as well as for older celebrities using the treatment in conjunction with other surgical procedures, like a facelift or neck lift.

My patients at Carolina Facial Plastics can achieve the same look in just one office visit, where I’ll use a cannula in place of a needle to perform the filler treatment, resulting in less discomfort, bruising, and all around tissue damage.

2. Mini Facelift

Another popular treatment, known as the “mini-lift,” is a less invasive version of a full facelift that works to rejuvenate the lower third of the face, jowls, and neck. A mini-lift can take five years off of a person’s appearance, and even more when performed with other complimentary procedures like facial liposuction or fat grafting. Because the mini-lift is much less invasive than a typical facelift, the procedure can be performed under local anesthesia.

To make sure they’re red-carpet-ready, celebrities must undergo the treatment a few months before attending award shows, as this is the typical recovery time for swelling, bruising, and discomfort to completely resolve.

3. Chemical Peels

It is a necessity that celebrities have their skin in tip top condition for the camera.  Skin that is vibrant, bright, and healthy can make the entire face shine.  I believe everyone should be on medical grade skin care products on a daily basis, but chemical peels can help accelerate the process.  One of the most popular skin peels I have at my office in Charlotte is the anti-oxidant enzyme peel.  It has the ability to hydrate the skin and remove the top layer of dead skin to give the skin the extra pop it needs for a special occasion.  This peel has no downtime and works in just a few days.

Man Undergoes Over 90 Plastic Surgeries and Spends Over $100,000 Dollars–Is He the Real Life Ken?

Thursday, November 1st, 2012

I am going to start this blog with an embarrassing fact; I used to play with Ken and Barbie dolls as a child.  It was not my favorite toy (GI Joe), but I do remember going over to my friends house and playing with them.  Even at that young age, I never wanted to look like Ken.  I thought he looked a little too snobby for my taste.  Well, there is a young man in New York City who has taken plastic surgery to the extreme.  He has had over 90 surgeries and spent a small fortune on plastic surgery.  He has had almost every procedure and implant imaginable, including among countless others:

Human Ken Doll?

As a facial plastic surgeon in Charlotte, this is not the type of plastic surgery I would advocate.  I recommend safe, natural, and conservative procedures to allow my patients to look great for whatever age they may be.  I am not in the business of radical changes or changing the essence of someones appearance.  If a patient was seeing me for his 91st plastic surgery procedure, I have a feeling that I would not be the right facial plastic surgeon for him.

Ethical Dilemma, Plastic Surgery on Patients with Disabilities

Wednesday, September 19th, 2012

Plastic surgery can be used as a tool to reconstructed a deformity from an accident, cancer, or to enhance ones natural beauty.  As in all areas of medicine, there are multiple ethical issues that continually challenge physicians on a daily basis.  A new ethical dilemma facing plastic surgeons is the decision to perform plastic surgery on patients with disabilities.  There are times when the parents of a child with a disability seeks the services of a plastic surgeon to change a trait or feature is commonly associated with the disability.  It could be a child with down syndrome that the parents are requesting their childs face to change to be more “normal”.

This dilemma was recently debated by an ethics commitee in England, they stated:

“aesthetic surgery on children with Down’s syndrome, aimed at adjustment to social canons of ‘normality’ cannot be considered as legitimate, especially when having a pervasive and painful component. This kind of surgery hardly brings benefits to people affected by the Down’s syndrome; it is instead more likely to increase patients personal unease.”

As a facal plastic surgeon in Charlotte, I agree with this European ethics committee.  There are cases many legitimate indications for plastic surgery on children birth deformities, but not to change the appearance of a child with a disability.  Additionally, who is the judge to to say that a particular trait of a disability is not attractice or beautiful.  There are children and adults with disabilities that are models, a profession of beautiful people.  I have a sister who fights for equality for people with disabilities, and I have learned from her that people with disablities should have the same rights, treatments, and access as people without disabilities.

This highlights the multiple ethical issues that I face as a facial plastic surgeon in Charlotte.  As with all areas of my practice, I always make what I think is the best decision for the patient, even if they do not agree with me.

Disney Characters Get Plastic Surgery in Venezuela

Monday, August 20th, 2012

I normally defend the many proper indications for plastic surgery, but this has gone too far.  A plastic surgery group in Venezuela is using the Disney characters in an advertising campaign to somehow show that plastic surgery can make dreams come true.  They show what they believe to be attractive results after plastic surgery to Ariel, the frog prince, and the wicked witch.  They are able to take youthful Ariel and make her look like an overdone Hollywood face, and they removed her tail and gave her legs.  How is she ever going to be able to go swim home and, if she can make it, will they recognize her?

I want to publicly state that I am against plastic surgery for animated characters.  This is my ivory tower for the day.

The Most Expensive Nose Job Ever…1.2 Million Dollars

Sunday, August 5th, 2012

Not all nose jobs are defined as a surgical procedure commonly known as a rhinoplasty.  Some nose jobs are related to criminal activities involving theft of expensive perfumes.   A criminal stole 1.2 million dollars of perfume in Paris that was eventually found a week later.  I am fairly sure that I will not be charging 1.2 million dollars for a nose job in my office in Charlotte icon smile The Most Expensive Nose Job Ever...1.2 Million Dollars

Barclays Gets Hit With Another Scandal, This Time The Thief Had Wished For Cosmetic Surgery

Tuesday, July 24th, 2012

Barclay bank has been hit with a series of scandals that has resulted in the resignation of their CEO and many other top officials.  The scandal at the bank did not stop there.  A 24 year old clerk in one of their bank branches in England stole over 70,000 dollars for cosmetic surgery.  She had a breast augmentation and teeth whitening to name a few procedures in an attempt to help her modeling career.  She initially pleaded not guilty but eventually pleaded guilty.  I think it was going to be hard for her to plead not guilty when the evidence was clearly visible on her chest (newly enhance breasts) and her beautiful new smile.

Practicing facial cosmetic surgery in Charlotte, a bank town, I would never encourage or even hope for an employee to steal money for any reason.  If they happened to steal the money for cosmetic surgery, I hope they would of choose Carolina Facial Plastics to have their procedure.  :)

A Real Housewife of Beverly Hills Has a Rhinoplasty

Monday, July 9th, 2012

Kim Richards, one of the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills had a rhinoplasty a few weeks ago.  From the limited view from the pictures, it appears she had her “bump” removed and like had her nasal bones broken.  She went to her sisters, Kyle Richards, white party, and she supposedly recieved many complinents.  As many of you know, I trained and worked with her “co-star” on the show, Dr. Paul Nassif.  I had the burning question if he did the rhinoplasty, but the reports are saying that he did not do the surgery.  Time will tell if we find out who really did the surgery.

Women Seeks To Have Largest Breast In the World!

Tuesday, July 3rd, 2012

A Florida woman has already begun arranging an appointment to visit her plastic surgeon to undergo her thirteenth breast procedure.  The woman is determined to have the largest breasts in the world. Currently an L-cup, she is the mother of twelve children, and would like her breast size to be a Triple- M.  For good reason, her children state that they are very concerned with their mothers health and well-being.

As a cosmetic surgeon in Charlotte, patients that continue to have plastic surgery may have a phycological disorder.  Most commonly, patients may have body dysmorphic disorder.  In these patients, no matter how good the outcome of the surgery, they are not happy because their displeasure with their body is a physiological disorder.  I would have a hard time doing another surgery on any patient that had 13 previous surgeries for the same concern or how unbelievably unnatural she appears.

The Most Important Fact You Need Know about ObamaCare and The Supreme Court’s Pending Decision

Monday, June 25th, 2012

Currently, the one section of ObamaCare that is being challenged in the Supreme Court is also the backbone of the bill.  Attorneys from around the country are challenging the right of the federal government to require citizens to purchase health care insurance.  They believe private citizens have the right not to purchase health insurance.

Facial Cosmetic Surgeon In Charlotte Explains Why Healthcare Mandate is Required for Obamacare The Most Important Fact You Need Know about ObamaCare and The Supreme Court’s Pending Decision

Supreme Court Has A Big Decision

Let me explain why the mandate is essential for ObamaCare to work….

ObamaCare will require insurance companies to cover both sick and healthy people regardless of their age.  People will be able to purchase health insurance at any time and for any reason.  If the mandate to require citizens to buy health insurance is revoked, but the rest of the bill stands, there will be no incentive to buy health insurance until people get sick.  This would be disastrous.

Insurance companies work by having a large amount of participants enrolled to share the risk.  It is vitally important to have low risk participants, young healthy adults, to help spread out the risk and cost.  If low risk participants are not enrolled in the system, then the pool is shifted to participants that will likely get sick, and the insurance companies will be required to pay for their care.

This situation would significantly raise insurance companies cost while significantly reducing their incomes.  The ultimate outcome would be sky rocketing premiums. Kentucky passed a similar law and it resulted in all of the insurance companies leaving the state except for two.  At that time, Kentucky was forced to change the law.

In essence, I feel revoking only the health care mandate would be the wrong course of action.  As a country, we need to closely analyze and participate in the upcoming federal decision regarding health care reform as it is going to affect us all, probably at some of the worse times in our lives.

Self-Proclaimed Barbie Called Dreadful and Kicked Off National Television Show for Giving Her Child Botox

Friday, May 25th, 2012

The self-proclaimed human Barbie, who has spent over $400,000 on plastic surgery, was on Anderson Cooper, aka “the silverfox,” the other day.  They were discussing giving Botox to her 15-year old daughter to prevent her from sweating during her dance classes.  Rarely do you see a professional on a national news channel lose his cool and call his guest “dreadful”.
